Mehmet Birhan YILMAZ, MD, FACC, FHFA, FESC Professor of Cardiology He was born in ?zmir in 1974. He graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of English Medicine in 1998. After completing Cardiology fellowship in 2003, he was appointed as Associate Professor of Cardiology at the Department of Cardiology of Sivas Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Medicine in 2006. He visited Advanced Heart Disease Section of Brigham Women Hospital of Harvard University in 2007. Between 2009-2010, he visited INSERM U 942 at Lariboisiere Hospital of Paris Diderot University and participated research on heart failure as a post-doc fellow. Dr.Yilmaz, certified to be Fellow of ESC in 2010 (FESC), was promoted to be Professor of Cardiology in 2012, and became the head of the department. In 2012, Dr.Yilmaz was awarded by TÜB?TAK (Technological and Scientific Research Council of Turkey) for his activities in heart failure. Since then, he has served in the advisory and executive board of Health Sciences Research Committee of TUBITAK (2012-2017). He served as the President of Heart Failure WG of Turkish Society of Cardiology (2014-2016). He was elected as FACC and Fellow of HFA (FHFA) in 2015. He served in board of Turkish Society of Cardiology between 2016 and 2018. He has been serving as Associate Editor of Anatolian Journal of Cardiology and ESC Heart Failure Journal and European Journal of Heart Failure. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Basic and Clinical Health Sciences, indexed in ESCI. He has published more than 300 papers with an h index exceeding 50. He has led the first national heart failure research program (SELFIE-TR) and has been leading Turkish Research Team in Heart Failure (TREAT-HF) registries for more than 10 years. He is governor-elect of ACC Istanbul Consortium Chapter (ACC-ICC). He has served as a board member of Heart Failure Association of the ESC (2022-2024), the chairperson of Acute Heart Failure Committee (2024-2026), founding member of Eurasian Heart Failure Society and Vice President of Health Institutes of Türkiye (TUSEB). He is currently full-time professor at Dokuz Eylul University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Cardiology in Izmir/Türkiye with a main focus on heart failure and husband of a Psychiatrist and a father of two daughters, Dilara and Meyra.
